I had dinner here with my family today. The employees were so helpful and attentive, which we appreciated. We did have a bit of a wait til our food came but it was busy...like, more busy than I would have expected on a Tuesday evening. We munched on the pickled beets and warm pita pockets (garlic sauce ordered separate) while we waited. Our food came out very flavorful and delicious, though! My dad's lamb and rice was filling and succulent (and he's picky but he didn't have a single complaint, which is rare!) as was my mom's meat pocket. I had the Arabic chicken salad with shawarma instead of grilled chicken which was huuuuge. I boxed half of it to take home! Lentil soup here was good, too. Prices are reasonable. Overall we left Al-Oumara very satisfied.

I really wanted to like this place.... really, I did. What actually happened was I paid $10 to dine while swatting multiple fruit flies away from my food (should have been my first clue) followed by a TERRIBLE case of digestive issues (I'll spare you the details) but everything else I had eaten was my usual fare prepared at my house. I won't be returning.

Absolutely wonderful. Some of the best middle-eastern food around, definitely the best in Oakland County! Amazing bread, shawarma & fattoush. I have had the raw juices when we have dined in and those are great as well. A+

This place has great food. Typically I get there Lebanese salads. I love the dressing. There entrees are great. Portions are pretty good. It gets a bit pricey. However they are a little frugal on the fresh bread. Whenever I get a carry out they give me like 3 pieces of fresh pita for a $30 order. But when I go to eat their and spend like $5 on a salad they keep the bread coming. Doesn't make sense to me, but their food is what keeps me going back.

This is one of my favorite restaurants in West Bloomfield. I have eaten many things here and they have always been fantastic. I recommend the grape leaves (amazing), appetizer combo (hommous, baba ganoush, and tabouli), and the schwarma dinner combo. The tabouli is fresh, and lightly seasoned and is just a perfect addition to any meat dish. Dining in: the restaurant itself is very nice and is always very clean. The wait staff is courteous, knowledgable and always willing to help. When you dine in they give you bread and pickled beets on your table to snack on before dinner. These have to be made in house because they are just so fresh and so good. If dining in, I recommend trying to eat light (almost impossible) and getting a piece of two of baklava for dessert. Take-out: I've never had such quality that can be prepared within 15 minutes. This place is clutch when you are in a hurry but still want to eat well. The employees are very helpful, even over the phone when ordering. Often when I call I have questions or want to try something new and they take the time to explain it to you and really make your experience great. For a quick bite, the schwarma sandwiches are perfect and can be eaten on the go although I bet you will want to stop and enjoy it.

Amazing service and fresh, affordable clean food. Best fattoush and hummus! Try the lentil soup and the "pockets" - they're on the menu. Also, bakery next door is very good. The staff is great and they're open late !!!

Good tasting Middle Eastern food in West Bloomfield. Staff is cousin that makes the food very quickly. Compares very well to other Middle Eastern restaurants in the area

Al Oumara has food that is the bomb.com ! You won't get a better chicken (shawarma, breast, kabob, kafta) dish anywhere else! Their meals are plentiful and filling. I often will go there and sit down for lunch or dinner with friends or call in a carry out. I'm eating their food probably 3 times per month. My favorite dish: Their chicken shawarma lunch special. Lots of chicken, lots of rice, and veggies. It also comes with a salad or soup. For dinner, my go-to is the half chicken, all white meat-- basically 3 thin chicken breast slices. It's marinated in a deliious sauce, served with rice, and boy is it filling! They make fresh pressed juices also, which, if anyone hasn't tried... get the lemonade! It's sweet, sour and freezing cold! They have the best hummus and garlic sauce I have ever tried. I'm very picky about my garlic sauce!! The bread is freshly baked, and it comes out hot! The only thing I don't like about this place, is the service. It's very inconsistent whether it's good or not. The food always comes out correct, but the service can be slow regardless if they are busy or not.

My neighborhood fave for some Lebanese food. I've been going here for years, despite not living locally since 2000. My dad and I typically go when I'm in town for some "food of my people." I could list all of the dishes I've had and liked, but it would take a while. Standout faves: the raw kibbee and the Al Oumara salad. This is the neighborhood fave in the middle of so many Arabic/Mediterranean/Lebanese restaurants. I gave it $$, but it's cheaper if you order sandwiches.

Was in there today and as always the food is good but probably won't go back due to the confusion with a few orders before mine, mixed up my order and had an attitude that customers were an annoyance. The woman at the register (assuming that I wouldn't know this) made obscene gesture to the cooks who returned the gesture regarding the woman in front of me paying separately for multiple orders. Will not return, and I will spread the word!

I'd give it 3.5 if I could. It's good standard Mediterranean food. Nothing awesome, but everything good so far. We'll be back.

I use to love this place until a couple weeks ago I ordered 2 chicken shwarmas they thought I said 4...and the lady was very ignorant about it so much she raised her voice and acted like a floon so I ended up buying it anyways and simply made it my last visit. Kinda sounds like the same person James h. Had in his review. I never expected that kind of service in the west bloomfield area , I've had better service in detroit .

Well, the first thing you should know about this restaurant is that they will add a tip to your bill whether YOU add it to the total or not. They did it to a friend of mine. The service was so BAD that my friend DID NOT add a tip. Actually put a ZERO in the tip line. Well, when she checked the receipt against her bank balance, the restaurant added a tip. When she called the restaurant to ask why....they said...they deserved it. Police charges have been filed. CHECK your bank balances against the receipt.

Pretty good food and a decent atmosphere. The service has always been good (I've been here a few times with no complaints). There are many good middle eastern restaurants around here and this one can certainly hold its own.

Been here a few times dine in, and quite often as carry out. The food is great. The appetizers are excellent, particularly the hummus, garlic sauce, baba ghanoush, fried kibbe, tabbouli, and fattoush. The shawarma sandwiches are great, as is the boneless chicken and shish kafta. Lamb chops and chicken cream chop are good too. Basically, it's good, give it a try!

I'm Lebanese so I get the right to rate their food accordingly lol. They have excellent food, fair pricing, and a nice staff. Can't ask for much more!! Also, as a plus, they have halal food!

The food here is good, but the service is horrible it's a shame they can't be somewhat interested that you came to eat in their establishment.

Dear fatoush, I love you. The food here is fantastic. Even better than that, it's reliable. Every time I am thrilled with my choice to eat here. Also, that garlic stuff. I can't think of the name, but it's white garlic paste and I want to practically rub it on my gums like cocaine it's so good.

We have been here three or four times. The last time, they were clearly short staffed. The food took forever to get to us, the waiter was agitated, and when the food did get to us, it was unimpressive. The shwarma was dry, and the chicken and vegetables were really greasy. This is disappointing because the first couple times we had been there, the food was much better. Hopefully it was just an off night.

Been coming here for well over 10 years. Never disappointed in I-don't-know-how-many-visits. They recently expanded, renovated, added an in-house oven, got a liquor license, and quality has not in any way been adversely impacted. We will continue coming here for years to come. PS: We have tried almost everything on their menu and it is all stellar. No need to worry about what choice to make.

Meh... I wasn't impressed... I had the chicken ghallaba and it had 0 flavor/seasoning/spice... It was basically little chunks of chicken, a few mushrooms, onions, and peppers with some black pepper for "seasoning"... NOT typical ghallaba the way I know ghallaba from other Middle Eastern restaurants... We asked for pickled turnips but got mostly pickled cabbage (odd...)... The rice was oily and flavorless, as was the salad... I will give an extra star for the great garlic dip though... It definitely had great flavor! The bread was just ok... They gave us a few pieces of the "good" bread and then some lackluster pieces of mediocre pita (the flat stuff not made in a brick oven)... Is it really that difficult to just use the good stuff all around and skip the mediocre pita? I will be back for take-out lunch because it's close to work, but next time I'll save my money and opt for a sandwich and garlic dip instead of a lackluster lunch entree...

Wonderfully fresh and delicious food! I almost always get a fattoush salad with chicken because it is so very good! I am sure, based on the scents and platings of other dishes, everything else is just as wonderful! The only reason it is a 4 and not a 5 is that the service can sometimes be slower... But never bad!

I came here for a quick carry out on a week night around 5:00. After a quick perusal of yelp reviews I decided this would be a safe restaurant. I have passed by here quite a few times before and just never thought to stop. When I walked in, I was helped immediately, and ordered a chicken shawarma sandwich. It was about a 5 minute wait and the sandwich was hot and the garlic flavor was perfectly tangy. It also had pickles and tomatoes in it. I would definitely stop by here again, the price was extremely reasonable and the size of the sandwich was really filling for me.

Nice restaurant! love the garlic paste and fresh salad. an authentic dining experience for us. the lamb tasted good but i can be just as happy eating garlic paste with bread, salad, and drinking tea. I won't order whole fish again because it's way too dry but this is my go during the week restaurant.

The chicken kabob was a little dry, but still tasty. Everything else from the hummus to all of the other kabobs we tried were fantastic. The leftovers also hit the spot the next day.

They have good lunch specials. We ordered the lamb shawarma sandwich and it was very good. Good food. They have done some remodeling and the place looks a lot nicer.

The shawarma was almost the best I've ever had, certainly the best I've had since the Dearborn La Shish was shut down. My wife was very pleased with both her meal and the substantial selection of vegetarian choices. My lentil soup was amazing and my wife's fattoush-type salad looked great, too. The wine selections were quite good and our portions were enormous. The service was incredibly friendly and accommodating. We will definitely return.

Delicious shwarmas and fallafells (my spelling is jacked up). Garlic sauce is on point, son! Vampires hate on it, but yes, I'm a fan. Living nearby now, I am for sure putting this one on the rotation.

Unbelievably bad service. Food just ok. Server extremely rude girl just threw the plate on the table, hitting my moms soup cup, extremely rude when taking order and super slow service, only two tables present! Don't waste your time on this joke, better middle eastern in WB.

Renovations are complete and it looks like a brand new restaurant! Latifah (I found out her name) and the rest of the staff are great. I eat here twice a week!

Best babaganough in the world! Salad with chicken isn't too shabby either. My husband and my favorite Middle Eastern restaurant.

So far so good! Eating the appetizer platter right now! Taboulli, hummus and baba with homemade bread... delic! A little pricey. Smoothies weren't that good.

Your surrogate Lebanese grandmother awaits. I came in here starving, and ordered braised lamb shank with tabbouleh. They did the lamb medium rare - the way it should be - despite me never specifying how I wanted it done. It came to me on a bed of rice with grilled vegetables, wonderfully seasoned and falling off the bone. Delicious. Everything else (hummus, bread etc) was fresh and perfectly prepared. This may not be the cheapest Middle Eastern food around, but it is by far the best.

This is a nice restaurant with a friendly and prompt service. The interior has recently been refinished and looks sharp. Food is, for the most part, very good. However a couple of times my entrée was literally soaked in oil or some kind of fat, making what could be an otherwise excellent dish almost inedible. Their pita wraps never disappoint, thought. As any Mideastern place they also make fresh vegetable juices on the spot. We will definitely be coming back.

This restaurant started my craze for Middle Eastern (ME) food. I loved the little lamb chops, the shwarama, the lentil soup, the dips, etc. I thought the service was great and the quantity and quality was great. If you are in the area, stop on by this snug little place in a plaza and get some good food. It's not the nicest little restaurant, but the food makes up for that.

This is one of my favorite restaurants in the Metro Detroit area. They serve the best picked beets before your entree along with homeade pita. I love the pickled beets so much that I stop there just to get them carry-out. I always get the chicken tawook and the crushed lental soup. Both are excellent. I love their garlic sauce too. They recentely renovated the place and made it bigger. I am always plesantly full when I leave but know that I have eaten healthy and that makes me feel good. Can't beat the prices either. The service is always great and they seem to work as a good team.

I grew up in Detroit but now live in San Diego, where good Middle Eastern food ain't easy to come by. When I'm back home I like to visit Al Oumara with my family. I've vegetarian so you might want to keep that in mind when considering my review, but I think that you can judge a Middle Eastern restaurant on the taste and quality of two simple dishes: fatoush and hummus. If a restaurant does can manage to make truly great fatoush and hummus, I imagine everything else will fall in line. Now the truth of the matter is that I'm not actually a fan of hummus in general, but damn, if someone can make f-ing garbanzo beans and sesame paste tickle your taste buds, than the other dishes will probably fall in line. So with that preamble, Al Oumara can rock a fatoush. As I recall, my mom was also really impressed with the tenderness of the chicken. Friendly folks here.

I'd eat here twice a day if I could! I LOVE everything I've tried on the menu, and the kibbeh nayee is simply the best you'll find in the state and probably the western hemisphere. Waitress Latifah makes everyone feel welcome, handles many tables gracefully and efficiently, and works in perfect concert with the kitchen to time courses. On return visits, she even remembers my usual order. With the restaurant's beautiful renovation and expansion, I want to have my next dinner party there.

I've been to this place around 6 times(only because I was on a mediterranean diet) and all 6 times the food was dry(chicken shawarma) and overpriced! The ambiance is nice but it lacks quality food. The Sheik in Canton is lightyears ahead of this place!!

Saturday evening tradition for my parents and their Israeli friends to get together to eat at Al Oumara before the movies. We are like family here. Once they hear that hebrew, they know who it is, what food we want and how we want it. I love their chicken shawarma fattoush salad. The crunchy pita chips, the juicy marinate of the chicken. Anything you get here will be the amazing. Top off a belly filling, pants unbuckling meal with either a smoothie or the amazing black tea with cardamom. This place is a food coma waiting to happen.

Al Oumara was my absolute favorite middle eastern restaurant in the state. Over the last 3 to 4 months that I have eaten here I have noticed a considerably inconsistent product from what I was used to from here. The Hommus has zero flavor and is blended into oblivion leaving it way too airy, almost like whipped cream. I prefer the packaged Hommus from Costco! The biggest disappointment has to be the tabbouli. WAYYYYYYYYYY TOO MUCH SALT!!! I was a regular here, now I try and wait a few weeks before trying them out again to maybe get a good hommus and tabbouli, but it hasn't happened the last 6 times. Hopefully the owner reads this and makes some changes to the hommus and tabbouli as this is a staple in mid-east cuisine. Also, they are rude when you call in a carryout order.

This was my first visit and I was pleased to have found a Middle Eastern restaurant comparable to those I frequented in Dearborn when I lived there. Hummous was excellent. I had the Tawook Lemon Oregano & my husband had the Chicken Shwarma - both were excellent. Very nice staff. They look to be expanding their West Maple location into the adjoining space, but right now it's a cozy little spot.

I've been to Al Oumara several times, and it's always been a pleasing experience. They have a second location on Haggerty Road, but for this Friday evening, I opted for the smaller, original location. It was a good choice, as the restaurant was fairly quiet and the service quick. I'm a big fan of ghallaba over hommous, and was pleased to see that they've recently added a zesty ghallaba dish to the menu. Tonight's entree may have been the best ghallaba I've ever had. I've also had very good shish kafta and shawarma here, and their sandwiches are an excellent choice, especially when eating on the go. The price was maybe a couple of dollars high for a ghallaba dinner, but reasonable. Their other dinner items are comparable to similar area restaurants. Their website is a little outdated, and does not list the second location or some of the newer menu items. Overall, Al Oumara is a very nice place for Middle Eastern cuisine in the northwestern suburbs. This location is small, for larger groups, try the Haggerty Road branch, which is only a few minutes away.
